Overview 

 

The Referee Development Coordinator will work within the Referee Technical Department and will be responsible for providing technical support with the preparation and execution of new course content and updating existing courses to accelerate the development of referees. The coordinator will be expected to lead the content creation of monthly technical topics, provide excellent customer service to both our members and state referee committee members. This position is also responsible for exhibiting a high-degree of professionalism, time management, and the ability to manage varying personalities. The Referee Development Coordinator will become an expert in IFAB Laws of the Game, U.S. Soccer’s assignment platform and game assignment process, U.S. Soccer’s Sport Development Philosophy, and creating educational content for referee licensing and continuing education.

 

Primary Duties

  • Work collaboratively to execute the day-to-day tasks to create education material for all levels of referees and referee coaches. 
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with all members, State Referee Committees, referees and other affiliated members
  • Assist in the course creation process, including revisions, implementation, and pedagogical discussions
  • View game files to capture educational content using video editing applications
  • Assists with producing educational and course content
  • Ability to maintain a working relationship with 55 state referee associations
  • Contribute to content creation based on IFAB’s Laws of the Game and current trends and team tactics
  • Coordinate with State Referee Committees’ to monitor the use of referee mentors, referee coaches and national referee coaches in the development of referees in their state
  • Assist with developing a depth chart for referees to be assigned to higher level competitions
  • Assist with coordinating education/training sessions remotely and in-person

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience as a sports official
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a number of different projects simultaneously 
  • History of meeting and/or exceeding deadlines
  • Detail orientated and a quick learner
  • Experience with creating and editing content
  • Strong Customer service and/or technical support experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Capable of working in a face-paced and demanding environments
  • Comfort working with online platforms
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe programs
  • Able and willing to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed

  • History of working in a team setting
  • General soccer knowledge
  • General knowledge of the referee community
  • Knowledge of the referee pathway and referee coach pathways
  • Knowledge of learning management, data analytics, CRM, assignment and registration platforms (Salesforce, Game Officials, Demosphere, Hudl, U.S. Soccer’s Learning Center, Tableau, FIFA Red)
  • Proficient presentation skills
  • Bilingual
