City of Rifle Seeks Basketball Referees near Rifle, CO

The role of this seasonal part time Referee position, is to make sure rules of the game they are officiating are being followed by all players. The referee will explain rules as needed and ensure that all participants understand these rules. Referees make calls regarding when these rules are broken and assess penalties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the schedule game time.

2. Assist other Rifle Recreation staff with any setup and tear down needed.

3. Officiate boys and girls youth basketball games.

4. Communicate with each team’s coach in a coaches meeting before the game and review any ground rules, unusual circumstances, and answer any questions the coaches may have.

5. Make sure all players are in proper uniform and notify the coach of any problems that need to be rectified including the removal of wristbands, watches, jewelry, and having their jerseys tucked in.

6. Check the court for any hazards or wet spots and ensure the ball is appropriately inflated.

7. Remain unbiased while officiating all games and avoid verbal contact with spectators.

8. Approach his/her position as a representative of Rifle Recreation, displaying respect for the facility, participants, parents, coaches, and co-workers.

Job Duration:

Recreational Basketball Season, generally late fall to early spring.

Experience and Training:
Minimum Education: No minimum education required.
Job Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old. Must pass a background check with results acceptable to the City of Rifle.

Seasonal Part Time Position. Wage is $30 per game. No benefits. Open until filled.
