Job Summary

The Convener, Beach Volleyball, is an integral member of our league operations at Canlan Sports. As part of the team, you’re here to help ensure that our Beach Volleyball league is the best in the game, and that our customer’s experience is an exceptional one!

Under the direction of the Sales and Customer Care Manager, and General Manager, this role the primary point-of-contact with the league’s team representatives and participants and is accountable for ensuring that the league is executed in-line with the standards we’ve set for ourselves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Registration and Fee Collection: Assists in facilitating registrations and ensuring that all participating teams have paid their league fees in-line with established payment deadlines.
  • Execution: Executes all facets of the league on scheduled days of play, serving as the primary point-of-contact for customers and participants in the league.
  • Organization: Builds a schedule of games, communicates rules, and coordinates all necessary components of league operations on scheduled days of play.
  • Technology: Strong working knowledge of all required technology platforms (e.g. CRM; Online Stats and Scheduling platform) and a demonstrated ability to use platforms as required on a day-by-day basis.
  • Brand Ambassador: In addition to being a strong representative of the Beach Volleyball League, demonstrates strong knowledge of Canlan Sports’ operations at the sports complex and speaks intelligently to customers about the full-service customer experience that our sports complexes have to offer.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Safety
    • Adheres to all appropriate Canlan Risk Management policies and procedures as governed by legislative requirement.
    • Comply with and support the Sports Complex Health and Safety Committee. Enforce Health and Safety Standards with team members to ensure a safe working environment and a safe customer environment for the complex as detailed in the Risk Management checklist.
    • Completed emergency response training, including implementation, location and use of Complex Emergency Plan, Incident Reports, First Aid Kit, Eye Wash Station and Defibrillator.
    • Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of department and escalate any unsafe Health & Safety conditions to the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
    • Is and ensures team are "HAZCOM" and "Workplace Violence" trained before working first shift in line with WCB requirements.
    • Uphold and implement appropriate use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
    • Adheres to and, when necessary, enforces Canlan Sports’ zero tolerance policy on outside alcoholic beverages being consumed within the sports complex.
  • Energy & Environmental Management
    • Ensures consideration for best practices in energy use management and environmental impact are employed in all areas.

This individual will build strategic relationships with others to advance the success of Canlan Sports organization as a whole.

Qualifications and Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Sports, Business, Recreation, or Facility Management or a combination of relevant work experience and education.
  • Experience working within a recreational sports league environment, including scheduling, convening, and maintaining a high standard of league execution.
  • Completion of any relevant certificate programs may be considered an asset.

    • Proof of valid certifications listed above is required

Abilities, Attributes and Experience

  • Minimum of one-year of relevant recreational sports experience.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills, both with customers as well as Canlan Sports team members.
  • Demonstrated computer and technology skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Stats Programs, CRM)
  • Proven ability to multi-task and balance priorities in a fast-paced environment.
