Visual cues as helpful reminders to parents and coaches

I have seen a few of these initiatives make the news over the last couple of years - using an armband or vest to designate a new official. All with the hopes that it reminds parents and coaches that these officials are learning too.

These leagues should be commended for trying new initiatives and it seems to help from most accounts.

It's probably step 1 of a number of steps in changing the culture but I also question if it makes it open season on those not wearing the armband or vest? Will parents and coaches expect even more from these individuals and "amp up" the verbal abuse of these officials?
